Vintage Burberry trench @mabeldulwich
The Trench was invented here, yes, by Burberry and Aquascutum in the 1800's, and has been replicated all over the world ever since. The Burberry brand is now as iconic as the red letter box.

So we are now in Spring mode. Yes, finally, we can ditch the heavy gear for something lighter and brighter. So 'The Trench' is the most practical item to wear now, for obvious reasons.
If you don't already own one, now would be a great time to make that purchase. They are back in vogue - literally! And the choices are abundant.

The trench is one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe. Feminine yet masculine, it's a timeless piece that will never date. It can be transformed from practical to sexy and edgy with ease.
There are no limits to how you wear it. It's such a great piece to style, because everything seems to go with it. A mother can put this on over anything and it will hide a multitude of spills (if needs be), while looking cool and together.
Belt it, add trainers (who doesn't have those?) for an instantly stylish, practical and easy look. Or there's the classic tailored look, with flares or cropped trousers and loafers.
For a more striking look, wear it over a dress, preferably one with lots of fluidity - perhaps tulle? This is where the masculine and feminine works so well together. I could put it a joke here, but you can draw your own conclusions!

I've had these two trenches for years. The one on the left is from French Connection, and the denim version is from Gap. They're classic, ageless and lasting - that just about sums up the whole appeal of the Trench.
